Frequently Asked Questions
Straight answers to the questions North Georgia homeowners ask us most often.
How much does a new roof cost in North Georgia?
Roof replacement costs vary based on the size of your home, roof pitch, material selection, and complexity of the job. For a typical North Georgia home, you should expect a full GAF architectural shingle replacement to fall within a several-thousand-dollar range, with larger or more complex roofs costing more. We always provide a clear written estimate up front with no hidden fees — if your insurance is covering storm damage, we'll work directly with your adjuster on the amounts.
How long does a roof replacement take?
Most residential roof replacements are completed in one to two days. A straightforward single-layer tear-off and re-roof on a typical home can often be done in a single day. Larger homes, steeper pitches, or homes requiring significant decking repair may take longer. We always walk you through the expected timeline before starting — no surprises.
Do you offer free roof inspections?
Yes. We provide free, no-obligation roof inspections throughout our service area. Whether you suspect storm damage, have a leak, or just want an honest assessment of your roof's condition, we'll come out, walk the roof, document what we find with photos, and give you a straight answer. No pressure, no up-selling — if your roof doesn't need replacement, we'll tell you that.
Do you work with insurance companies on storm damage claims?
Absolutely. Insurance claim work is one of our specialties. We meet adjusters on-site, document damage thoroughly with photos and measurements, and handle the back-and-forth so you don't have to. We've worked with every major insurance carrier and know exactly what documentation they need to approve legitimate claims quickly.
Are you licensed, insured, and GAF certified?
Yes, on all three. Bishop JD Roofing is fully licensed to operate in Georgia, carries general liability and workers' compensation insurance, and is a GAF Certified Contractor — which means we're trained to install GAF roofing systems to manufacturer specification and can offer enhanced warranty options. We can provide certificates of insurance on request before any work begins.
What kind of warranty do you offer?
Every roof we install is backed by two warranties: the GAF manufacturer warranty on the roofing materials themselves (coverage varies by system, typically decades on shingles), and our own workmanship warranty covering the installation. We explain both in writing before you sign anything, so you know exactly what's covered.
What areas of Georgia do you serve?
We serve homeowners across North Georgia and the greater Atlanta metro — including Braselton, Johns Creek, Alpharetta, Suwanee, Buford, Cumming, Gainesville, Atlanta, Duluth, Lawrenceville, and many more. View our full service areas list to see if we cover your town, or just give us a call at (706) 983-5557 — if we don't, we'll recommend someone who does.
How do I know if my roof actually needs replacement or just repair?
This is one of the most common questions we get — and the honest answer is: it depends on the age of your roof, the extent of damage, and whether issues are isolated or systemic. A roof that's 10 years old with a handful of missing shingles from a storm is usually a repair job. A 20+ year-old roof with widespread granule loss, cracked shingles, and failing flashing is typically a replacement. We'll give you an honest assessment either way — our reputation depends on not over-selling you.
What type of shingles do you install?
We primarily install GAF architectural shingles — including the GAF HDZ, UHDZ, and Natural Shadow lines. These are premium dimensional shingles known for strong wind resistance, long manufacturer warranties, and a clean finished appearance. Full systems also include GAF WeatherWatch ice-and-water shield at critical areas, synthetic underlayment, starter strips, Seal-A-Ridge caps, and ridge vent systems — because a roof is more than just the shingles on top.
What should I do if I think my roof has storm damage?
First, stay off the roof yourself — it's not worth the risk, and you could make an insurance claim harder to document. Call us for a free inspection. We'll walk the roof, photograph the damage, and help you decide whether to file a claim. If you do file, we'll work directly with your adjuster and handle the documentation. (706) 983-5557 — same-day inspections are usually available after major storms.
